Hello, treadmill!!!
I have never really been one to exercise indoors, but I think I have been spooked into doing so. I really love getting fresh air & seeing the outside world, but after last night I'm not too sure I'll be enjoying it in quite the same way.
I took advantage of the extended daylight hours & headed for a nearby trail. This trail connects 2 parks, is fairly well-traveled, and is in the middle of a neighborhood (not exactly ghetto, but not quite country club either). I saw 3 guys walking toward me on the trail & thought nothing of it, and just kept running. As I ran past them, the biggest one reached out & punched me in the face, sending me to the ground. I was pretty shocked, and looked up at them. I think I even mumbled something stupid like, "I don't have any money!" They just laughed & walked away.
I don't understand how people in the movies get up & fight after being hit in the face. My head was throbbing, and as I stood & contemplated what to do next, I realized I was bleeding. Ick. I walked toward a community center to try to get help. I had to walk back through a wooded trail to reach my car, and I was not doing that alone!
Thankfully, everyone was very helpful & kind. The police were a little slow & didn't seem too concerned about catching the guys, but at least they escorted me to my car, and I can now say I've ridden in a cop car. How exciting. Maybe I'll even be in the police report in the newspaper. Woohoo.
Thanks to my sister & her medical connections, I have 3 stitches in my face & look like Frankenstein. I'm a little skittish, too ... I keep thinking those 3 guys are lurking in all types of places: my backseat, the closet, behind the shower curtain. I know that will pass, eventually. It was horrible, but I keep thinking about all the things they could have done to me, and it makes me shudder. I'm happy that I'll walk away with only a facial scar (that ought to keep me humble!) and nothing more serious. I'm pretty sure the guys were gang-related, based on their head wraps & clothing colors (how sad that I know this information). What a night.
I've never really enjoyed the tread mill, but I think it's time we reaquainted ourselves! ! !
